Description

Betnovate Ointment is an effective treatment for inflammatory skin disorders and is commonly used to treat conditions such as eczema, psoriasis and dermatitis. As it is used to treat these skin conditions and reduce symptoms like itching, irritation, burning and swelling, Betnovate Ointment can also be used to alleviate and provide relief of symptoms associated with haemorrhoids (piles).

Betnovate Ointment is highly potent and therefore may be recommended as a haemorrhoids treatment if other medications have proved ineffective.

Before applying Betnovate Ointment to the skin, you should wash your hands thoroughly while ensuring that the affected area is washed and dried. This treatment is for external use on the skin only. You can measure how much ointment to apply with your fingertip. Unless you are applying the ointment to your hands as part of the treatment, clean them again after using it.

Betnovate Ointment should be applied to the affected area thinly and evenly in small amounts. It is for short-term use only. Further information on how to take Betnovate Ointment is provided in the patient information leaflet.

As soon as your skin condition starts to become better, you should apply it less regularly, as directed by your GP or healthcare provider. If your GP or healthcare provider has advised you to use dressings with Betnovate, the skin should be cleaned before putting on the ointment under a fresh dressing.

Do not apply your moisturisers to the same skin area at the same time as this treatment. Attempt to leave at least 30 minutes between putting on moisturisers. If you fail to follow these steps, the moisturiser may dilute the active ingredient and make it less effective.

As with all medications, there may be some side effects when using Betnovate Ointment. The possible side effects include, but are not limited to, skin irritation, itching and burning, skin colour changes, an increase in absorption and thinning of the skin if treatment is used for a long time, excessive hair growth, certain forms of dermatitis worsening of the affected area and eyesight problems like cataracts or glaucoma.
