Liofen 25 mg
Characteristics
Description
Baclofen is the main active pharmaceutical ingredient present in Liofen. Baclofen belongs to a group of medicines called muscle relaxants and is an antispastic agent used for the relief of muscle spasms, cramping or tightness.
Liofen is used in the treatment of spasm of skeletal muscles. It is also used to treat cerebral palsy, diseases of the spinal cord, meningitis, motor neuron disease, multiple sclerosis, cerebrovascular accidents, and other diseases or injuries that affect the brain and central nervous system.
Liofen is related to gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), which is a natural occurring neurotransmitter in the brain. It is believed that Baclofen, acts like a GABA that blocks the activity of nerves within the part of the brain that controls the contraction and relaxation of skeletal muscle. Liofen blocks the nerve signals from muscles at the level of the spinal cord and it may also depress the central nervous system, thus relieves pain and improves muscle movement.
Side Effects: drowsiness, sedation, ataxia, headache, dizziness, confusion, skin reactions, hallucinations, enuresis GI symptoms.
