Augmentin inj. 1.2 g
Characteristics
Description
Augmentin is a penicillin antibiotic. It works by killing sensitive bacteria.
Amoxicillin is a semisynthetic antibiotic with a broad spectrum of bactericidal activity against many gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. Amoxicillin is, however, susceptible to degradation by β-lactamases, and therefore, the spectrum of activity does not include organisms which produce these enzymes. Clavulanic acid is a β-lactam, structurally related to the penicillins, which possesses the ability to inactivate a wide range of β-lactamase enzymes commonly found in microorganisms resistant to penicillins and cephalosporins. In particular, it has good activity against the clinically important plasmid-mediated β-lactamases frequently responsible for transferred drug resistance.
Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium is used to treat many different infections caused by bacteria, such as: sinusitis, pneumonia, ear infections, bronchitis, urinary tract infections and infections of the skin.
If you have ever had an allergic reaction to penicillin or to a cephalosporin, you may also be allergic to Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium. Before taking Amoxicillin and Clavulanate Potassium, tell your doctor if you have: liver disease (or a history of hepatitis or jaundice), kidney disease or mononucleosis.
Serious allergic reaction: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
