Glucobay 100 mg
Characteristics
Description
Glucobay is used to control blood sugar levels in patients affected by non-insulin dependent diabetes (type 2 diabetes). Glucobay works by blocking the action of certain enzymes in the intestine (such as sucrose) that break down food and release sugars into the blood. By slowing down the digestive process, Glucobay helps to prevent high blood sugar levels from occurring after a meal has been consumed.
Follow the instructions given to you by your doctor when taking Glucobay. Glucobay are taken with the first bite of food of each main meal. Your doctor may tell you to take 25 mg, 3 times per day. However, your dosage may be adjusted and a maintenance dose of 50 mg to 100 mg (taken 3 times per day) may be prescribed.
Side effects: nausea, vomiting, flatulence, pain in the abdomen, digestive disturbances.
If you suffer from or have ever been affected by cirrhosis, ketoacidosis or any intestinal diseases, you must tell your doctor before taking Glucobay.
Although Glucobay will not cause hypoglycaemia by itself, there is still a possibility of this occurring if you have been told to take this medicine in combination with other drugs to treat diabetes.
Seek immediate emergency medical attention if you suffer an allergic reaction. Symptoms to watch for, which may be indicative of a reaction, include skin rashes, hives, swelling of the face or limbs, trouble breathing, and trouble swallowing.
