Description
Atorva is used in the treatment of increased cholesterol levels in blood, increased triglycerides levels in blood and increased LDL levels in blood. Atorva is a cholesterol-lowering medicine (statins). Atorva comprises of an active constituent Atorvastatin. Atorva works by blocking an enzyme (HMG-CoA-reductase) that is required in the body to make cholesterol. It thus lower "bad" cholesterol (LDL), triglycerides and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL).
Atorva is used to improve cholesterol levels in people with different types of cholesterol problems. It’s also used to decrease your risk for a heart attack and stroke. It’s used together with diet, weight loss, and exercise. Atorva helps to prevent cholesterol from building up in your arteries. Clogged arteries can block blood flow to your heart and brain.
Atorva may be used as part of a combination therapy. This means you may need to take it with other medications. These may include bile acid resins and other cholesterol-lowering medications.
Atorva belongs to a class of drugs called HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors or statins. A class of drugs is a group of medications that work in a similar way. These drugs are often used to treat similar conditions.
Atorva works by lowering your low-density lipoprotein (LDL) or “bad” cholesterol and raising your high-density lipoprotein (HDL) or “good” cholesterol. This medication improves your body’s ability to get rid of the LDL cholesterol through your liver.
Some of the more common side effects that can occur with use of Atorva include: cold symptoms such as runny nose, sneezing, and coughing, diarrhea, gas, heartburn, joint pain, forgetfulness, confusion.
