Armidex reduces estrogen levels in postmenopausal women to slow the growth of certain cancer tumors. It works by blocking the aromatase enzyme, thereby decreasing estrogen production.
Dosage and direction
- Follow your doctor's instructions regarding treatment and dosing schedule.
- Do not exceed the prescribed dosage.
- Take once daily.
Precautions
- Inform your doctor if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have severe liver disease, history of stroke or blood clot, heart disease, circulation problems, or if you haven't completed menopause.
- Dose adjustments may be necessary for these conditions.
- Treatment may last up to five years.
- This drug may affect concentration: use caution when driving or operating machinery.
Contraindications
- Do not use in premenopausal women.
- Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Not recommended for severe kidney disorders or moderate/severe liver diseases.
- Do not use if hypersensitive to Armidex or its components.
- Estrogen-containing preparations should not be used with Armidex as they counteract its effects.
Side effects
- Common: allergic reactions (hives, rash, facial swelling, breathing difficulties), sudden headache, confusion, vision/speech/balance problems, numbness/weakness on one side, bone fractures, swollen glands, hand/feet swelling.
- Less serious: hot flashes, sore throat, weakness, back/bone pain, nausea.
Drug interaction
- Inform your doctor about tamoxifen or estrogen use.
- Disclose all prescription/nonprescription medications, herbs, vitamins, and supplements.
Missed dose
- Take as soon as remembered unless close to next dose.
- Never double the dose.
Overdose
- No known overdose information.
- Contact doctor immediately if overdose suspected.
Storage
- Store at 20-25°C (68-77°F).
- Keep away from moisture, heat, and sunlight.
- Do not store in bathrooms or children's reach.
