Adapalene is a topical retinoid-like compound used to treat acne by preventing pore clogging and reducing inflammation.
Available Forms
- Prescription: Gel, cream, solution (liquid), or medicated wipes
- Over-the-counter: Gel only
Application Instructions
- Preparation:
- Wash skin with a mild cleanser and pat dry
- Avoid harsh scrubs or abrasive products
- Application:
- Apply a thin layer to entire affected area (not just individual spots)
- Use once daily at bedtime
- For solutions: Use provided applicator
- For wipes: Discard after single use
- Post-application:
- Temporary warmth or stinging may occur
- Avoid contact with eyes, nose, and mouth
Important Considerations
- Initial breakout may occur (first few weeks)
- Full results typically visible after 8-12 weeks
- Continue use even if acne appears worse initially
- Not for use on broken, sunburned, or eczema-affected skin
Safety Information
- Do not overapply (won't improve results faster)
- If eye contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water
- Use sun protection (may increase photosensitivity)
Note: Adapalene helps control acne but does not provide a permanent cure. Consistent use is necessary to maintain results.
