Description
Abilify is prescribed for:
- Major depressive disorder (adjunct treatment)
- Schizophrenia in adults/adolescents
- Bipolar disorder (manic/mixed episodes)
- Irritability associated with autism in pediatric patients
Mechanism of Action
- Partial agonist at D2 and 5-HT1A receptors
- Antagonist at 5-HT2A receptors
- Moderate affinity for histamine/alpha-adrenergic receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Initial dose: 10-15mg once daily
- May be adjusted based on response
- Can be taken with/without food
Important Safety Information
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to aripiprazole
- Breastfeeding
Precautions:
- Increased suicide risk in young patients
- Not for dementia-related psychosis in elderly
- May impair judgment/motor skills
